Highschool of the Dead is about the dead and the living. While the Deads are ready to take over our planet Earth, the living survivors are struggling hard to stay alive and fight the dead, or the so-called "Zombies".

The plot revolves around a group of survivors from Fujimi High School who are trying hard to reach an elementary school that we know is a safe zone.

But reaching the safe zone continues to become more difficult with every passing second. On their way to the safe zone, they face Zombies, fellow survivors turned into immoral beings and many other dangers.

They need to fight them all to get there. But the question is, is the elementary school a safe zone?

Surrounded by zombies, how long will they be able to survive? The first season of the anime left us on a cliffhanger.

The battle can"t go on forever. It has to end someday or the other. We need to know what happens at the end of it all.

Everything we know about Highschool of the Dead Season 2

Highschool of the Dead is an anime adaptation of a manga of the same name.

In Japan, it is also known as Apocalyptic Academy: Highschool of the Dead. The manga was written by Daisuke Sato, who died in the year 2017, leaving the manga unfinished.

Therefore, the storyline of the anime remains unfinished as well. Season 1 of the anime aired in the year 2010 and was a commercial hit.

Yet the producers didn"t take it up for another Season. The reason is unknown and most probably will remain unknown.

Now, with the death of the mangaka, another sequel seems highly unlikely. We won"t ever get to know what the original writer had in mind for the ending of the anime.

To get another sequel, we need another writer to give us an engaging storyline as good as the original one.

Official Announcements and Release Dateof
Highschool of the Dead Season 2

2010 was the year in which the first season of Highschool of the Dead was released.

It has been over 10 years now. There has been no official announcement forthe renewal of the series.

I know that"s bad news for the fans who have been waiting for years without an end.

But honestly, we can"t change the truth, can we? The producers of the anime have given us no hint to hope for Season 2.

Moreover, even the writer of the series is dead. The series did not get a sequel for 7 years while he was alive.

Do you think there is much hope after his demise? I"m afraid no one can tell you that.

The original producers of the anime aren"t interested in producing a sequel. God knows why.

The series was a commercial blockbuster. Here comes the surprise!A US-based Anime Network is ready to take up the project for Season 2 of the anime Highschool of the Dead.

Although we do not have the answers to your who, when, and how questions because it"s not yet known to the public.

I know how badly you all want a Season 2 to happen.

Therefore, I will take you on a journey of analyzing all the facts which are important to consider while deciding on another season!

Source Material Information for Highschool of the Dead Season 2

The manga on which the series is based is incomplete due to the death of the mangaka in 2017.

Daisuke Satō, the author of the manga was in poor health for a long time. Due to this manga production was halted between 2008 to 2010. After 2011 only one chapter was added to the manga.

Co-author Shoji said that no one can replace Sato and it pains him to draw and continue the story so he decided to not proceed.

The first season of anime covers volumes 1 to 4 of the manga so, there are just 3 volumes left.

Volumes
English Release Date
Volume 1January 25, 2011
Volume 2April 26, 2011
Volume 3July 19, 2011
Volume 4October 25, 2011
Volume 5January 24, 2012
Volume 6April 24, 2012
Volume 7July 24, 2012

To produce the next season, we need at least one more volume but the writers of the crossover manga"Shōji Sato Artworks: Highschool of the Dead & Triage X – Lightning Pop" agreed to stop the manga.

Therefore, nothing can be said about the availability of the source material as of now.

As I"ve said earlier, a US-based Anime Network is willing to produce a second season.

But who will write the story? They"ll have to hire another creator to do the job.

Although it is highly unlikely that somebody else would be able to do justice to the storyline.

Yet there"s no sin in hoping right? After all, the world runs on hopes and dreams!!!

Let"s dig deeper and see if the fans still want it, even after 10 years of waiting.

Expected Plot of
Highschool of the Dead Season 2

Season 1 of Highschool of the Dead has not covered 13 chapters of the manga.

Therefore, we can get some idea about the plot of Season 2. In Season 2 we will see Takashi"s group deciding to leave the mall.

But things do not work according to their plans. Another insane survivor opens the emergency door and lets "them" get into the mall.

This sudden turn will change things and they will get stuck on rescuing the insane survivor.

A disclaimer for you all. We presently do not have much source material which will provide us with the exact plot.

All we are trying to do is provide you with a rough sketch of the expected plot of Season 2, based on the little material available, and our assumptions.

In Season 2 of Highschool of the Dead, we expect to see a solution found by the group to root this problem out permanently.

The war can"t go on forever, right? There has to be an end to it.

Who will win the final battle? The Dead, or the Living?

Popularity Informationof Highschool of the Dead Season 2

We can estimate the popularity of an anime by seeing Google trends, monthly search volumes for the anime, and going through social media pages.

A popular show will have a high probability to get a new season. So let"s look at them one by one.

Google Trend

Let"s see what Google has to say regarding the trend around the anime Highschool of the Dead Season 2.

It has been quite fluctuating. But the good news is, it was never very low.

It was at its peak around June this year. Now let"s see how many searches season 2 gets per month.

Search Volume

It"s been a while since we heard any positive news about the high school of the Dead. This has resulted in low searches for the second season.

For any anime, next season"s 18K monthly searches are not encouraging.

We need to look at other factors to know if we should expect season 2 or not.

Twitter

Does the anime have a good social media presence? Do they have an official Twitter account?

If yes, how many followers are there? Do they post regularly? These questions should be considered while deciding on a Season 2.

*

Do they have an official Instagram presence? Unfortunately, they don"t. But no worries, the fan page on Instagram has a pretty good follower base. 24.6k isn"t a bad number at all.

Is it? Guys, let me know what you people think in the comments section below.

I"m pretty confused about the chances of getting a Season 2. Your opinions would help me a lot.

After all, I too am just another fan of the series, waiting for a second season, most ardently!

Reddit

There are a lot of questions and answers regarding the series Highschool of the Dead Season 1 & 2, but there isn"t any, so-called, account, particularly dedicated to the anime.

Or maybe I was unable to discover one. The thing is, I am not very acquainted with Reddit as a platform.

Maybe that"s the reason I couldn"t search for the page. Do correct me if I"m wrong.

So, the anime has got moderately good ratings from different platforms. As for the review, many criticized it.

Top Five Best-Rated Episodes

Highschool of the Dead is one of a kind anime. It has all the elements of a hit anime show.

Fans loved the story and the characters. So, let"s take a look at the top five best-rated episodes.

1. Streets of the DEAD (Episode 5)

This episode has a rating of 4.6/5 on My

Highschool of the Dead Manga, DVD/Blu-ray Sales

This is the most important factor when deciding on another season. As I have told you all earlier in my other articles, producing anime, is a very expensive venture.

Therefore, if the manga or Season 1 hasn"t been a commercial hit, hoping for Season 2 is useless.

Manga Sales

The manga, on which the anime was based, was commercially successful. In the year 2010, volume 6 of the manga Highschool of the Dead was #5 on the Oricon best-selling charts. Total sales were 135,754 copies. Volume 7 of the manga sold a total of 206,532 copies

That"s indeed a big deal. So this might convince the US-based Anime Network to find a suitable writer and continue the series.

Blu-ray/DVD Sales

Due to digitization, Blu-ray disc sales have been going down. People nowadays prefer to stream it online from platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu etcetera.

In this digital world, is there anybody who would like to get a Blu-ray disc?

I highly doubt it. And with the rise in online streaming platforms, we no more get to know about the sales and profit margin of a particular anime.

Since season 1 was released a while ago, we did find something. Total Blu-ray sales stood at 4,562 copies while DVD sales were 2,250 copies in Japan.

It"s a good number.

Popular Highschool of the Dead Characters

Since this series is based on a high school narrative, most of our characters are students. The series has many important characters but we will be looking ata few selected from them.

Saeko Busujima

Saeko is one of the main protagonists of the anime Highschool of the Dead Season 1.

We will meet her again in the second season for sure. From the beginning, till the end, we can see how calm and composed Saeko is.

An athletic fighter, Saeko is very good at kendo. She has been kind and generous towards the people she has worked with.

Her kindness and exceptional fighting skills are the reason she survived all the hardships and attacks by "them".

Saeko has blue eyes, and purple hair and is too long for a Japanese girl. She is the second oldest member of her high school team, and therefore she treats her teammates as if she is their older sister.

Shizuka Marikawa

The oldest and the most responsible member of the team is Shizuka Marikawa. She is also one of the protagonists of the anime Highschool of the Dead Season 1.

Shizuka is a nurse at Fujimi High School. She is the only adult in the group and yet is the emotionally fragile one.

Her life changes upside down after the "Outbreak" of Zombies in Japan and other parts of the world.

Looking after everyone"s health is her responsibility and she fulfilled it very well. When drunk, Shizuka"s mind turns into a very sexually oriented one.

Whatever people say or do during this phase is interpreted sexually by her. We will meet Shizuka in Season 2 as an important character.

Takashi Komuro

The main protagonist of the anime, Takashi is a second-year student at Fujimi Academy in the anime.

Takashi is the founder and leader of the main group of survivors. He has strong feelings for his childhood friend Rei Miyamoto, as well as his team member Saeko Busujima.

Complicated isn"t it? Feelings are most complicated, but it"s not the same.

People do not fall for two ladies at the same time very often unless you are interested in a time pass and playboy kind of thing.

Assuming that Takashi isn"t a guy of that type, we will settle with the fact that he isn"t sure about his feelings.

A confused soul, Takashi is trying to figure out who is the one he has fallen for!

Takashi will resume his role as one of the most important characters in the anime.

Why do we want a Season 2 of the anime Highschool of the Dead?

Do we need to answer this question? This is what seems silly to me, but I will do it anyway to once again put our points together.

In the Season 1 of the anime, we didn"t get a proper ending to the story.

The survivors fight, but will this fight go on forever? Moreover, they are very few.

How long will they be able to stand their ground? If they don"t get a solution to end this "outbreak" of "them", there wouldn"t be one human being on planet Earth.

Only Zombies will walk the Earth and that doesn"t sound very pleasing to our human ears, does it?

We want to see them hunt for a proper solution and win the war. We want to see the fate of our Earth in an otherwise scenario.

A proper ending is what we want. A proper ending is what we demand. Fulfil it, or we will continue poking you forever!

Ending of Highschool of the Dead Season 1

The ending of Season 1 has received mixed reviews from the viewers.

Some loved it and wanted it to be continued, while some were sure it was messed up and wanted it to be continued as well.

You see, everyone wants another Season of this anime. I didn"t like the ending.

It was pretty weird. The way they all smiled before starting a massacre was particularly odd.

I mean, I agree that the characters are brave people, but alas, they are "people" or "humans", fighting "Zombies".

It is a war between the living and the dead, so you cannot, just cannot give that meaningless smile.

Has anybody amongst you all seen Game of Thrones? If yes, you most probably remember the Great War between the Dead and the Living right?

The Dead never tire, they do not feel, they do not fear, but the living do!

That"s the difference. Having feelings, tiredness, and fear, is a privilege in normal life, but a weak point while battling with "them".

That"s the reason I didn"t like that smile. It just spoiled my mood honestly.

Conclusion

The conversation for today comes to a close with this. Since the first season aired more than ten years ago, it is extremely improbable that the anime will be renewed.

With the death of mangaka, the development of source material is put on hold so enough content is not available for a whole new season.

Let"s hope some network may see its potential and shows a willingness to take it.

"Highschool of the Dead" is a popular anime series based on the manga by Daisuke Sato and Shoji Sato. Created by the renowned studio Madhouse, the anime dropped in the Summer 2010 season. It focuses on what would happen if a large section of the population suddenly turned into the undead. Known as "The Outbreak" within the series, the plague destroys most of society and the zombies are almost always referred to as "Them." However, in typical zombie apocalypse fashion, these ravenous corpses aren"t always the biggest threat, with other survivors often proving to be far more dangerous. It may not be the easiest anime to get into, especially if gory violence and fan service aren"t your thing, but the show proved very popular with horror fans and still has a big following to this day.

Despite being more than a decade old, "Highschool of the Dead" has retained its position in the top 100 most popular anime shows on My Anime List and has more than 1.4 million members on the website. Its legacy is down to the fact that it managed to stand out in the saturated zombie subgenre, as Anime News Network noted in its review of the show. "Other recent zombie works in Western entertainment have tried to play it ironic, or postmodernist, or just plain silly, but this one goes for straight-up horror — and pulls it off admirably." Fans have been pining for a second season ever since, but there have been conflicting reports over whether it will ever happen. Here"s what we know.

*
Madhouse
At the time of this writing, there is no official release date for "Highschool of the Dead" Season 2. A second season has not been greenlit, despite the fact that the first season didn"t adapt all of the manga. There are seven volumes of the "Highschool of the Dead" manga (as well as two collected English language omnibus editions that package volumes one through four and volumes five through seven, respectively). Season 1 adapted the first four volumes, so there are still three volumes left to work with.

Sadly, the chances of any further volumes coming out are slim to none, because Daisuke Sato, the creator and writer of "Highschool of the Dead," passed away due to complications from ischemic heart disease in 2017. There have been calls for the series to continue on without the original creator, especially from fans in the West, who may not be aware of Daisuke Sato"s death. However, illustrator Shoji Sato has indicated that this is unlikely to happen.

"Although it pains my heart, too, that the series went on hiatus, just thinking about Daisuke Sato makes me think that I cannot carelessly get involved," Shoji Sato said in a Comic Natalie interview (via Anime News Network) when asked about "Highschool of the Dead." These sentiments have been echoed by the editor of "Triage X," which is also illustrated by Shoji Sato. "It"s common overseas for comics and novels to be created by multiple collaborators," they said. "But for "Highschool of the Dead," was the one and only, so I"d like overseas fans to understand that nobody else could write it easily."

Manga spoilers ahead.

The plot of "Highschool of the Dead," much like other works in the zombie subgenre, follows an intrepid band of survivors as they make their way in a hostile world. The classmates of "Highschool of the Dead" are generally good people, but, as mentioned earlier, not everybody is keen on helping humanity rise above its more bestial aspects. Things got pretty heated in the 12th and final episode of Season 1, with a giant horde of zombies breaching the mansion our gang were holed up in. Some of the survivors managed to make it to a vehicle and they headed for a mall to take refuge.

Those who are familiar with the manga will know what happens next. If Season 2 goes ahead, it will presumably adapt the remaining volumes. But what happens in the fifth, sixth, and seventh volumes? Takashi and the gang join forces with the people who have managed to survive the apocalypse inside the mall, though a power struggle quickly threatens the safe haven. Our survivors opt to leave the mall before it"s too late, but before they can depart, the defenses are breached by zombies. They manage to escape again and take refuge in a police station. It"s a great place to restock before moving on, though they decide against leaving town until Rei and Takashi"s parents have been located.

This would be the main thrust of a second season, though — with only three volumes to work from — the creators may choose to add some story of their own, especially since the original story has no ending. Answers could be provided as to what happened before "The Outbreak" and if there"s any chance for a return to normality.

Madhouse
While Season 2 of "Highschool of the Dead" is hypothetical at this point, the characters that could appear are a bit more pinned down, on account of the manga and the cast of the anime. In the English dub of Season 1, Leraldo Anzaldua stars as Takashi Komuro, Jessica Boone is Rei Miyamoto, Taylor Hannah is Saeko Busujima, Maggie Flecknoe is Saya Takagi, Mark X. Laskowski is Kohta Hirano, Monica Rial is Shizuka Marikawa, and Brittney Karbowski is Alice Maresato. All of these voice actors are still active and many of them have worked on some huge shows in recent years. Therefore, there"s nothing to say the cast of Season 1 wouldn"t reprise their roles in a second season, should it ever get the green light.

The creators of the anime would also need to cast some new voice actors to take on characters who have yet to be seen in the anime. If Season 2 does go ahead, then Asami Nakaoka would inevitably be a big character. A police officer who initially seems incapable of leading, Asami is in charge of the survivors in the mall. She has trouble maintaining her authority at first, but she comes into her own and becomes a valued member of Takashi"s group. Another important character who is yet to appear in the anime is Rei"s mother Kiriko, a gang member-turned-cop who is definitely not to be trifled with. We know from the manga that she"s still alive out there, somewhere.
